
TCI Receives International Five Star Diamond Award

(Grand Turk: February 20, 2006) The Turks and Caicos Islands was declared the ultimate travel destination worldwide when it received the prestigious International Five Star Diamond Award.
President and CEO of the Academy of Hospitality Sciences (AAHS), Mr. Joseph Cinque presented four of his coveted Awards yesterday at the Grace Bay Club to the Turks and Caicos Islands, Chief Minister, Dr. Michael Misick, Grace Bay Club and American Airlines.
Mr. Jeremy Bitz, Executive Producer for Time Warner’s 24 hour television news channel in New York noted, “The Academy recognizes only the absolute best in the hospitality industry, world wide with its International Five Star Diamond Award, making it THE international award; one that many strive for, but very few actually attain.” He went on to say, “The Academy is an organization that looks well beyond luxurious appointments on the surface, seeking a total philosophy of beauty and excellence.”
Rita Cosby, Triple Emmy Award Winner, anchor and special correspondent for MSNBC and host of ‘Rita Cosby Live and Direct’ remarked, “The American Academy of Hospitality Sciences is the only true global award programme recognising the best of the best”.
Setting the Five Star Diamond Award apart from all the rest she reminded the recipients that the award puts them in a class by themselves and signifies quality and exception.
The Turks and Caicos Islands, was honoured with the award for commitment and excellence in cultivating tourism; evolving into one of the world’s most sought after destinations for celebrities and the elite.
Mr. Bitz stressed that the award is a first for any destination of this classification in the Caribbean and the first for any island.
Accepting the award on behalf of the people of the Turks and Caicos Islands was Chief Minister Misick, who stated, “This award means so much to the people of the Turks and Caicos”. He continued, “Creating an island destination that is special takes the effort of everyone”. With that he commended the hard work of all the Tourism Industry partners and urged them to maintain the standard that the Academy has become accustomed to.
Chief Minister Misick also received his own individual Five Star Diamond Award, joining the ranks of world leaders and visionaries within the hospitality industry who have made a significant difference. Chief Minister Misick is deemed by the AAHS as being a true visionary and the driving force behind making hospitality and tourism a priority in the Turks and Caicos Islands. Mr. Bitz remarked, “His unique effort has combined the power of developers, investors, private businesses and government to make the Turks and Caicos Islands the ultimate luxury destination for vacation or residence.”
